This article outlines the steps to set up and enroll a Mac computer in Jamf. Once the setup is fully complete, you can install applications from Self-Service and restore your files from G-Drive.
Before you start, please ensure these requirements have been met.
- An Okta account must be set up and active
- Okta verify MFA must be enabled
Process:
macOS Setup Assistant
- Select your Country or Region
-
Under 'Transfer your Data to this Mac', select 'Set up as New'.
- In Accessibility, you can set the necessary settings or select "Not Now".
-
Select your Wi-Fi Network. *The Wi-Fi network must be secure. Wi-Fi at hotels, coffee shops, and airports will not work for setting up a new device.
- Click Enroll under Remote Management
-
You MUST ‘Enable Location Services’ so Date/Time is accurate. Without a precise date/time, the rest of the setup will not proceed as planned.
From this point forward, please ask users to be patient - it may take up to 1 minute to transition between steps. Do not shut down the computer or close the lid.
Sign in with Okta using Jamf Connect.
-
Sign in with your Okta Username (email) and your Okta Password.
-
Complete Sign in with Okta Verify MFA
Finish Setup Assistant - Touch ID
-
Click Continue to set up Touch ID.
-
Place and lift your finger on the sensor located on the power button until the fingerprint is filled in, and then click Continue.
macOS onboarding workflow
Now that the user account is created and you are logged in, macOS onboarding starts. The Self Service (ACV branded) application launches automatically, starting to install core applications while also silently configuring security requirements. *The screenshots are for illustrative purposes only. The actual experience will evolve over time based on the needs of the business and end users.
-
Wait until the Self-Service window launches.
-
The macOS onboarding workflow will begin, setting up policies and installing applications (Google Chrome, Slack, and Zoom) on the computer.
-
Setup completes after a few minutes.
Once the main setup is complete, you can install G-Drive and other necessary applications from Self-Service to sync your saved files to your computer. If any issues occur while setting up the computer, please contact Helpdesk.
